Welcome back to A New Frontier, I have been in rural India for the past few weeks and was unable to keep up without internet connection, but we next have a fascinating delve into a misunderstood corner of world history.
I had the honor several weeks ago of sitting down for a conversation with Ernst J. Van Zyl of the civil rights organization AfriForum, dedicated to preserving the rights of South Africa’s Afrikaner minority, the descendants of largely Dutch settlers whose diverse, 400 year history on their frontier echoes our own. Ernst and I discussed an article he wrote an article on the Helpmekaar Movement recently in The European Conservative, what the world can learn from Afrikaners’ rise from poverty, the protection of the Afrikaans language, and South Africa’s upcoming elections.
I was initially planning to include a transcript of our discussion in this email, however, seeing as Substack has an automatic transcript built into their audio and the length exceeded the typical limit, I opted against it. If anyone would like a transcript to save separate from Substack’s, please email us at newfrontiermag@gmail.com.
